Dave Goldberg and family have a passion for helping young people achieve success. Dave was inspired by the work of the Boys & Girls Club several years ago when he heard from two Club members, who spoke about the impact the Club had on them, during an annual Youth of the Year event. These young people had grown-up in the Lincoln Park neighborhood, disadvantaged by economic, social and family circumstances. They attributed their success story to the Boys & Girls Club, where they found caring adults who believed in them and told them that they had the capacity to succeed and achieve greatness. Their stories were heartfelt and led Dave to realize he could make a positive difference in a child’s life with a financial commitment to the Boys & Girls Club.

“I believed then as I believe now that the Boys & Girls Club is the best prepared organization to provide the safe haven, the caring adults, and has the capacity to foster positive development in these young people. Each year when I send my check, I know that I am providing young people with the support and guidance they need to become productive citizens.”

When Dave was approached to help build a hockey arena at what is today the Heritage Sports Center, he said he thought their scope could be broadened to reach more youth and from more diverse backgrounds. That conversation led to the addition of a Boys & Girls Club on the facility’s mezzanine level enabling the Heritage Sports Center to meet a much greater need in our community. And because of that decision, Dave’s family made a legacy gift to ensure young people of diverse backgrounds have a safe haven at the new facility.

Dave’s own life was impacted by the death of his father when he was only 13. His father’s influence and mother’s caring love carried him forward. “Looking back, I realize now how truly fortunate I am to have had them in my life. Their guidance is with me when I make business decisions and it is with me as I teach my children and now my grandchildren about the important things in life.”

“The day the Boys & Girls Club at the Heritage Sports Center opened I was very proud. Proud of the great gift my parents had given me, proud of what they instilled in me, and so proud that I could give a gift to help many children become caring, productive, responsible citizens. My family’s legacy gift to the Boys & Girls Club is an investment in children’s futures, an investment that pays huge dividends - for the child and for our community.“
